fairy tale/fantasy movies boredom rant

Fairly tales/fantasy is the current it thing in Hollywood at the moment and I bleedin luv ih . Granted there hasn’t been anything that fantastic around of late but I appreciate the effort and assume someone will get it right sooner or later . Compiled here is my ramblings

Mirror Mirror came out earlier this year and although I didn’t bother to go see it , it looked absolutely awful . Lily Collins is not leading lady material and will forever be the ugly girl from 90210 to me .Tarsem Singh directed ,which at first I felt was a good choice from the point of the view of the financing studio , Singh having directed ‘Immortals’ ,which was atmospheric ,visually attractive and enjoyable . Immortals was the movie with the same set of pproducers as 300 . So clearly these were the guys that made Immortals entertaining and mirror mirror not so .

Snow white and the hunstman is the second Snow white inspired film of 2012 , after Mirror Mirror and for those who don’t know , I am extremely excited for it . It’s from the production company that made Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland in 2010 {which wasn’t great by any stretch of the imagination but had potential to be great} . Roth films is the name of the production company and Snow white and the huntsman will be the second of four fairt tale films they have planned . I really like the cast for this film aswell so I think it will be really enjoyable .

{Disney had planned a live action retelling of Snow White themselves but put the film on indefinite hold last week.The film was due to star Saoirse Ronan}

I don’t know alot about the other productions Roth films have planned but they sound exciting . They’ve attracted impressive casts anyway ,which either means its a money job or a good script. Oz: The Great and Powerful is due out next year and will be directed by Sam Raimi .Raimi was the director of Tobey Maguire Spiderman movies and I think the premise of the world of Oz will lead to some fantastic visuals if the special effects folk are up for it .

Maleficient is the final fairytale film Roth films have in the works . It’l be directed by a guy named Robert Stromberg , who is a first time director but has won oscars for his work as an art director .Didn’t James Cameron start off as an art director ? Pretty sure he did. There seems to be a strong emphasis on the visuals , the way things looks with Roth films , which is maybe why I’m so intrigued. That said , if these films as messes I won’t be able to appreciate how nice they look . Maleficient has a very cool cast , with Angelina Jolie ,Elle Fanning and Sam Riley.I’m excited for it anyway .

Two Pinnochio inspired scripts landed in 2011’s Black List . ‘Pinnochio’ and ‘The three misfortunes of Gepetto’ . Both scripts have now been bought by major studios and it is looking likely that Tim Burton will direct The Pinnochio script {written by Bryan Fuller}

While it’s not fantasy or a fairytale , ‘Saving Mr.Banks’ is another movie I am eager to see made . It tells the story of how Walt Disney acquired the rights to produce Mary Poppins . Tom Hanks might be playing Walt Disney and I think that’d be some excellent casting .Also the scripts supposed to be awesome.

Neil Jordan’s film ‘Byzantium’ tells the story of a Mother and daughter vampire and is due to be released this year . Neil Jordan is one of my favourite directors , Interview with a vampire and Ondine are just really special movies in my mind . He handles fantasy so well .This film was actually partly shot in Dublin , even though it’s set in Hastings or something ?

Theres also like three Peter Pan inspired movies in the works I think ? I don’t really know anything about any of them . One of them is entitled ‘Pan’ ,and is the one we’re most likely to hear about . It’s got a pretty unknown production company , director and screenwriter behind it but has attracted Sean Bean ,Annasophia Robb and Aaron Eckhart so it must have something going for it .

Joe Wright will be directing a movie inspired by Hans Christian Andersens original little mermaid story entitled ‘The little mermaid’ . Joe Wright is the director of Atonement ,Pride and prejudice and the biggest dissapointment of my life , Hanna {Hanna could have been awesome} There’s not alot about this movie about but the fact that Joe Wright is behind it is very exciting.

Darren Aronofskys set to make the biblical tale of Noahs ark .Chrisians might argue the story of Noahs ark to be fact , I am not Christian , therefore this movie is going in my fantasy ramblings.Aronofskys one of the best directors there is at the moment . Aronofsky has yet to make a bad film , The fountain and Requiem for a dream are two of my favourite films ever,so while Noahs ark doesn’t sound too exciting , I am excited none the less. Jennifer Connolly stars in this film and she can do no wrong in my book . Saoirse Ronan and Russel Crowe also star . That’s another thing , Saoirse Ronan is very good at associating herself with good directors and good scripts. She did ‘the lovely bones’ with Peter Jackson {which probably led to her being offered a part in the Hobbit ,though she turned it down} , she did ‘Atonement’ and ‘Hanna’ with Joe Wright , she did Violet and Daisy with ‘Precious’ screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher , she did ‘Byzantium’ with Neil Jordan and now shes due to work with Darren Aronofsky . Basically , shes class

Theres other fantasy and fairytale movies due out of course ,these are just the ones that I’ve shown some interest in . On a final note , I think we have Bill Willingham to thank for this new surge of fairytale inspired films . Willingham wrote a comic book entitled ‘Fables’ in 2002 which some say is one of the best written comic books in recent years . That is all.

So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, comformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON…It is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a Godsend and they are! They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. Sometimes they die. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. Your need has been answered, and now it is time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON…It is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant”
